I think that the combat speed is the actual speed at which the game plays in combat, like a certain% of a maximum speed that slows down or speeds up time based, giving you less or more time to react, especially important if you are doing directional blocking and not button blocking. As for combat AI and campaign AI, I can only assume that combat AI involves the AI difficulty in the actual battles whereas campaign AI has to do with diplomatic plotting, manuevering and overall warmongering, as in more effective campaigns and possibly more frequent campaigns, keeping you on your toes more often.Again, I am not 100% on any of that, but it all seems to make sense. The diificulty measurement number is just a rough estimate based on your settings and really means nothing by itself. Mods can change the actual difficulty without this being reflected in this number at all. It is just a number. If you play around with the settings in your current game you can see this number change. Again, the number itself doesn't matter - just use the settings that you like. What actually changes the real difficulty (not just a number) the most are the damage settings. Set these at normal full damage for yourself and your allies if you feel up to it.Changing the battle speed also has a significant effect.
Mount And Blade Warband Best Difficulty
It changes the pace of combat to some degree by changing the speed of the attack animations. Slower is easier. You can think of it as the global weapon speed baseline for everyone.Changing the campaign AI and combat AI settings will make the AI slightly less stupid in theory but it really doesn't change the core behavior much. Some mods will improve the AI to some extent by giving them more options and this may become more noticeable. One other thing that changes the difficulty number is the lance control. With automatic you raise and lower at appropriate speed. With manual you need to push a key to do this.
The control feels a bit different. Use whichever setting you like better. If you don't use lances though this setting is of course irrelevant.
